Having teased the next game in the "Tales of..." franchise with a countdown website
for the past three weeks or so, Namco Bandai has finally revealed that title to be Tales of Xillia 2
- a sequel to last year's fantasy RPG Tales of Xillia
, likewise developed for the PlayStation 3. The announcement was made at today's 2012 "Tales of Festival"
event in Yokohama, and with it came the all-in-one reveal & gameplay trailer
This will be the 14th major title in the Tales series, and it's currently planned for release in winter 2012 (a precise date will be announced on June 27). The story will take place one year after the original's end, and the characters introduced so far in the trailer include the main hero Ludger, his cat Lulu, and an 8-year-old girl named Elle Mel Martha
Marcy May Marlene
- who is said to be the key to the story. In fact, one of the tagline'sque quotes cited around the 'net reads: "Are you ready to destroy the world for the girl?"
Various gameplay details are available on Andriasang
, if you can be bothered to scroll through pages of screencaps taken from the announcement video.
And finally, there are a couple of production names worth mentioning - both returning from the first Tales of Xillia game: studio ufotable is once again creating the game's animated sequences, and Ayumi Hamasaki is contributing the theme song.
