With some delay following the first Prototype images we added a few days ago, it wouldn't hurt to finally present the actual game as well. From what Sierra / Vivendi announced over the weekend, Prototype will be a new action game set in an open world, developed by a studio which already knows a thing or two about these kinds of games: Radical Entertainment, the ones responsible for The Simpsons: Hit & Run and the more recent Scarface: The World is Yours, among others.
Shortly put, Prototype promises to be a completely new kind of open-world game, enriching the classical recipe with a deceptive story, filled with conspiracy and plenty of deadly "shape-shifting" action. We'd love to be able to say more about it, but for now all we get is the game's starting scenario...
"PROTOTYPE tells the story of Alex Mercer - a man haunted by his past, fighting a secret war in New York City. As the action spirals out of control, a conspiracy tied to his origins threatens the future of mankind itself. Mercer's amazing shapeshifting powers allow him to become an exact replica and steal the skills or powers of anyone who crosses his path."
... and the following statement given by Kelly Zmak, president of Radical:
"Radical Entertainment set out to create the most dynamic video game character ever imagined. From free-form movement to over-the-top combat action; PROTOTYPE can climb or wall-run across any surface, jump 30 stories high, and destroy anything that crosses his path."
Prototype is developed for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with a vague release date set for summer 2008.(N.B. Archive text, links removed)
